Dr. Seuss Week

Last week we had a week long celebration for Dr. Seuss and Read Across America. Dr. Seuss's birthday kicked off this week of fun on Monday, March 2nd. Read Across America promotes the importance and fun that reading is to all individuals. While we had fun reading and learning more about Dr. Seuss as a school we took on a celebration each day.

Monday - Red and White Day (wear as much red and white as you can!)
Tuesday - Wacky Socks Day
Wednesday - Wacky Hair Day
Thursday - Mismatched Patterns Day (wear stripes, polka dots etc.)
Friday - Hat Day (Wear your favorite hat)

Science Information Books

In the last month, as a First Grade team we worked on Science Information Books about Liquids, Solids, and Gases. One of our recent experiments was making snow ice cream. We investigated what components we needed to make snow ice cream. As I introduced the students to snow, vanilla abstract, sugar, salt and milk we started to classify within liquids, solids, and gases which ingredient would fall where. We continued the discussion as we added each ingredient to make the snow ice cream and of course, taste test it! The following day we wrote the science information book upon the topic. It was an enjoyable experience had by all!
